Tributes for the martyred CRPF jawans poured in from all spheres of the society in Kolkata on Saturday.

While Indian Army personnel wore black armbands while received bravery award for anti-insurgency actions, both by the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and CPI(M)-led Left Front organised rallies in solidarity with the deceased CRPF jawans.

Speaking to journalists after the award ceremony at Fort William, the Headquarters of the Eastern Army Command, the Commander-in- Chief of the Eastern Command Lieutenant General M Naravane said that the Indian Army will not let its morale down with such incidents.

“It is a sad incident. We will continue to work in a united manner and will not let such incidents adversely affect our morale,” said Naravane, who also wore a black arm band during the programme.

Referring to the attack on CRPF jawans in Jammu and Kashmir, he said that whenever such an incident takes place it is analysed at the top level and the outcome of the analysis is conveyed to all officials concerned.

Later in the day, two solidarity procession were held in the city. That of the TMC was led by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

“We stand in full support to the CRPF jawans and their family members. We are for united India,” Mamata said at the end of the procession.

Meanwhile, the Chinese Army has proposed to hold sports events with the Indian Army at designated military camps in its territory.

“The proposal is currently under consideration. Usually the interaction between the Armies takes place as per established norms,” Naravane said.
