For the first time in the history of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) that manages the Sri Venkateswara temple, one crore laddu prasadam was dispensed in the month of May.

According to data available at Sri Vari Potu (kitchen), a whopping 4.05 lakh laddus were distributed on May 28 alone. In all, 25.08 lakh devotees who had Lord Venkateshwara’s darshan in May received the laddus under different categories such as Arjita Seva and Sarva Darshanam.

TTD sources said May month always recorded record footfall due to summer holidays, resulting in whopping laddu sales. Earlier records were 72.33 lakh laddus in May 2013, 80.64 lakh in May 2014 and 89.84 lakh in May 2015. TTD Executive Officer Dr D Sambasiva Rao lauded the regular and additional ‘Potu’ workers for the historical feat. He announced Rs 2,500 incentive for 482 ‘Potu’ workers and 16 helpers at a meeting with them in Tirumala on Tuesday.

The ‘Potu’ workers urged the EO to increase the work area inside the additional ‘Potu’ to enable  them to prepare even more laddus with ease.

The EO instructed the engineering wing to look into the plea and also to install more efficient exhaust fans to prevent overheating.

TTD prepares more than three lakh laddus and holds a stock of another three lakh laddus every day to meet the pilgrims’ demand.
