The Gujarat Assembly speaker suspended 16 MLAs of the Opposition Congress from the state Assembly on Monday for the remainder of ongoing Budget session that ends on March 29. The Congress legislatures were suspended for "creating ruckus" in the house over disqualification of their leader Rahul Gandhi as a parliamentarian, among other issues.

16 of Congress' 17 MLA appeared in the house wearing black clothes and started raising slogans against the ruling government. Despite repeated attempts, Congress MLAs led by its legislative party leader Amit Chavda stormed the well demanding a discussion during question hour.

Assembly speaker Chaudhary refused to hold a discussion asking Chavda that no debates can be held during question hour. The Congress leaders refused to budge and kept on waving slogans which said "Modi-Adani Bhai-Bhai (Modi-Adani are brothers)." This promoted the speaker to order the sergeants to remove the MLAs from the house.

After the commotion, state legislative and parliamentary affairs minister Rushikesh Patel while condemning the act moved the proposal to suspend Congress MLAs till the end of the Budget session. Cabinet ministers Balvantsinh Rajput and Raghavji Patel supported the move which was passed unanimously.

In the house of 182 Assembly seats, Congress has only 17 seats while the Aam Aadmi Party has five MLAs who remained silent during the commotion.
