<p>In a shocking incident, a group of four sadhus were beaten up by a mob on suspicion of being child-lifters in Sangli district of Maharashtra. The incident took place in Lavanga village in Jat tehsil.</p>.<p>According to reports reaching here, the sadhus hailing from Uttar Pradesh were heading towards the temple town of Pandharpur from Bijapur in Karnataka in a car.</p>.<p>Videos of the incident have gone viral on social media platforms.</p>.<p>When reports last came in, there was no formal complaint lodged in any police station about the incident.</p>.<p>During the journey, the sadhus asked a boy for directions following which some men intervened and beat up the sadhus.</p>.<p>The ruling BJP has assured an investigation into the incident.</p>.<p>"This is appalling and we will not tolerate such a barbaric act in Maharashtra. Even though the sadhus have not complained, we will take suo moto action and ensure this is never repeated again…sadhus are respected people for us," assured BJP spokesperson Ram Kadam.</p>.<p>"I have spoken to police officials and they are investigating the matter," said Kadam, an MLA from Mumbai.</p>.<p>Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who is in Russia, spoke to Director General of Police Rajnish Seth and ordered a probe.</p>.<p>Two sadhus, Kalpavriksha Giri Maharaj (70), Sushil Giri Maharaj (35) and their driver Nilesh Telgade (30), were brutally lynched to death on the night of April 16, 2020 -- during the pandemic lockdown -- in Gadchinchale village in Dahanu tehsil of Palghar district, nearly 120 km from downtown Mumbai. The two Nashik-based sadhus belonged to the Varanasi-headquartered Shri Panch Dashnam Juna Akhara, the biggest order of sadhus in India.</p>.<p>The then Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi government had come under fire from the Opposition BJP after the incident.</p>
