In what could spell troubles for Sanjay Dutt and a major embarrassment to the Maharashtra Government, the Bombay High Court on Monday wanted to know the reason and justification of the early reason from the prison, where he spent a jail term for possessing a deadly AK-56 rifle that was part of the consignment that landed ahead of the 12 March 1993 serial blasts case.

The observations came when a division bench comprising Justice RM Sawant  Jadhav was hearing a PIL filed  Pune resident Pradeep Bhalekar challenging the regular paroles and furloughs granted to Dutt when he was serving his sentence.

"(Before he was released finally) was the DIG, Prisons, consulted or did the Jail Superintendent directly send his recommendation to the Governor?......Besides, how did the authorities assess that Dutt's conduct was good? When did they get the time to make such assessment when he was out on parole half the time?" the bench noted and posted the matter after a week's time.

The son of actor-couple Sunil Dutt and Nargis, the 29 July 1959-born actor has made a big name as far as acting is concerned – but controversies have always chased him. Though born with a proverbial silver spoon in mouth, he had has on share of unending struggles, but he never gave up and today is a veteran of 200-plus films. Even a bio-pic on his life is in floors. This development comes as yet another tension to him.

Always a rebel, he took to drugs after the death of his mother. In 1982, he was sent for rehabilitation in Texas in the United States. When it came to personal life, he leaves behind a number of broken affairs with some of the leading ladies and two failed marriages. He also tried politics but left.
