Lashing out at Mamata Banerjee for supporting Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday accused his West Bengal counterpart of trying to shield a "corrupt" officer.

Yogi was addressing a party rally in West Bengal's Purulia district.

"Nothing can be more shameful and unconstitutional than the way West Bengal Chief Minister is trying to save a corrupt officer and sitting on a dharna to prevent corrupt deeds from being exposed," said Yogi.

Referring to the Bengal government's decision to pull out of Centre's Ayushman Bharat scheme, Yogi said that the Trinamool Congress government was depriving poor people of the benefits of Centre's welfare schemes.

Earlier, Yogi minced no words against the TMC government for not allowing his chopper to land in the state.
