Youths gang-rape minor in UP to 'take revenge'

The only fault of this 15-year old girl is that she is the sister of an accused in a two-year-old rape case, who is now in jail.

In a bid to exact revenge, on Tuesday, two youths - the brother of the girl who was raped two years ago and his friend - raped the 15-year-old who was en route to Kannauj district jail to meet her brother.

The incident occurred in Uttar Pradesh's Kannauj district, about 150 km from capital Lucknow.

According to sources in the police, the victim was accompanied by her mother when the incident occurred.

The two women boarded a jeep to reach the jail. On the way, two other youths also boarded the jeep.

The youths, according to the police, gang-raped the victim at gunpoint in the moving vehicle. The victim's mother was threatened with dire consequences if she protested.

The victim and her mother were dumped near the Agricultural Science Centre near Kannauj town, the police said. The victim was rushed to the district hospital where her condition was stated to be serious.

Police said that the victim's brother had allegedly raped the sister of one of the suspects in Tuesday's incident in 2016 and is currently lodged in the district jail.

A case has been registered against the duo, who are absconding, and the police said that a massive manhunt has also been launched to nab them.
