Officials told to hand over houses to Diddalli evacuees

Deputy Commissioner Annies Kanmani Joy has directed officials to hand over the houses constructed in Basavahalalli and Byadagotta near Kushalnagar to the eligible evacuees of Diddalli.

Annies Joy spoke at the review meeting at her office. It was the first review meeting she chaired after assuming charge as deputy commissioner of Kodagu.

‘Provide facilities’

The deputy commissioner said that works on amenities such as drinking water and underground drainage (UGD) must be provided to each house on priority.

Shivkumar, Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP) officer, said that the work has been completed on 138 houses but pending on 38 houses. “In Byadagotta, 132 houses have been constructed and 21 houses are yet to be completed. The work on the pending houses will be taken up after clearing the temporary sheds,” said Shivkumar.

The deputy commissioner insisted that the minor works should be completed within a week. “The works coming under Karnataka Rural Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (KRIDCL), rural drinking water and sanitation department needs to be accelerated. Officials should conduct a special camp to distribute ration cards, caste certificates, Aadhaar cards, EPIC cards, bank accounts and pension letters to the eligible evacuees of Diddalli,” she instructed.

‘Conduct survey’

Also, speaking during the meeting of homeless, Annies Joy asked the concerned authorities to distribute sites to the beneficiaries belonging to ST communities. A survey must conducted in the land earmarked for the allocation of sites. Necessary facilities should be provided to the children’s education as well, she ordered. A taluk-level committee of the homeless should be constituted to address grievances of the people, she added.

Assistant Commissioner Jawaregowda and Tahsildar Govindaraju were also present at the meeting.
