The polling for the three urban local bodies in Kodagu district – Virajpet, Somwarpet and Kushalnagar Town Panchayats – on Sunday was peaceful.

Polling was held from 7 am to 5 pm in the 45 polling booths in the district. It was brisk in a few wards in the morning. The fate of all 135 candidates has been sealed in the EVMs.

Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer P I Sreevidya visited the Arasau Layout polling booth in Virajpet and inspected the polling process. She confirmed that the polling in all the booths was peaceful.

Wheelchairs were provided for the physically challenged voters at some of the polling booths.

Counting

The counting of votes will be on October 31 and will begin at 8 am.

It will be held at Somwarpet Government PU College for Somwarpet and Kushalnagar Town Panchayats and at Virajpet Government PU College for Virajpet Town Panchayat.

The results are likely to be announced by noon.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA M P Appachu Ranjan expressed confidence of the BJP winning in all the three ULBs in the district.

“The BJP will win with a thumping majority in Somwarpet and Virajpet ULBs, while the party will get a simple majority in Kushalnagar,” he said.

“The BJP has issued tickets to eligible candidates. Priority was given to young works in the party,” said the legislator.
