Last Updated 02 November 2018, 09:30 IST

Railway police arrested two passengers for illegally transporting Rs 1.65 crore by Nethravathi express (Mumbai to Ernakulam), at the Indrali railway station on Friday.

The two passengers were travelling in the air-conditioned compartment and another person was waiting at the Indrali railway station to collect the money.

Following complaints about the increase in theft cases on the Nethravathi Express train, the railway police had initiated extensive checking drives.

Suspecting the attitude of two passengers, railway police asked for their tickets (for verification) and found a difference in names. The name on the ticket did not match the names in their photo identification cards.

When police searched their bag, they found over Rs 1.65 crore in cash.

I-T sleuths too visited the spot. Udupi tahsildar and election officers also visited the spot. The two arrested are claiming that they had brought cash for buying land. Police are investigating the source of the money.
