Gadgets Weekly: OnePlus 7, flexible-screen PC and more

This week was a particularly busy one in the consumer electronics business sector, as it witnessed high-profile global product launches such as OnePlus 7, 7 Pro, world's first flexible display-based PCs by Lenovo and also locally too, as Google's Pixel 3a series and Itel A46 hit stores in India.

Lenovo ThinkPad X1
Chinese technology major Lenovo showcased the world's first laptop with a flexible display at the recently concluded Accelerate 2019 event in Florida. It looks like a giant version of the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Fold smartphone, but hopefully, the screen has undergone high durability tests, so that it can sustain daily wear and tear. We can assess it once the Lenovo PC hit stores.

It has no physical keyboard, instead comes with a full-fledged edge-to-edge screen. The company has revealed that the ThinkPad X1 sports 13.3-inch OLED screen made by prominent screen-maker LG Display. Under-the-hood, it is said to come with Intel processor powered by latest Microsoft Windows 10 OS.

"Made for highly mobile, tech-savvy professionals who demand the best tools, the new foldable PC joins the premium ThinkPad X1 family, promising that the unprecedented portability will in no way compromise productivity and reliability. This is not a phone, tablet, or familiar hybrid; this is a full-fledged laptop with a foldable screen," Lenovo said.

OnePlus 7, 7 Pro
OnePlus 7 is being released in two variants-- OnePlus 7 and the OnePlus 7 Pro with prices starting at Rs 32,999. The will go on sale on May 17.

OnePlus 7 Pro flaunts a 6.67-inch Quad HD+ FullView display with 90Hzs refresh rate and it comes with true all-display panel without any notch thanks to the incorporation of the pop-up camera on the top rim.

Inside, it comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, 8GB/12GB RAM, 128GB/256GB storage, triple-camera 48MP+16MP+8MP sensors on the back, 16MP pop-up selfie shooter and a 4,000mAh battery with 30W Warp charing, wherein 20 minutes is enough powerup the phone from zero to 50-percent and if the company is to believe, it last a whole day.
On the other hand, OnePlus 7 comes with a smaller 6.41-inch full HD+ water dew notch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 octa-core, 6GB/8GB RAM, 128GB/256GB storage, dual 48MP (with Sony IMX586 sensor)+ 5MP primary camera with LED flash, 16MP (with Sony IMX471 sensor) front snapper and a 3,700mAh cells with a fast charging capability.

Google Pixel 3a, 3a XL
Google Pixel 3a and the 3a XL got unveiled on May 7 and finally went on sale this week on May 15 for Rs 39,999 and Rs 44,999.

Both the Pixel 3a models differ only in terms of screen size and battery capacity. Everything else remains the same. They sport full HD+ display and on the back, they flaunt a dual-tone polycarbonate shell with fingerprint sensor and a single-lens camera in the top left corner.

Under-the-hood, Pixel 3a series comes with 4GB RAM, 64GB storage and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 670 octa-core with Titan M security chip.

As far as the photography hardware is concerned, they come with a 12.2MP primary camera with F1.8 aperture, 1.14-micron pixel size, 76-degree Field-Of-View (FOV), dual Phase detection, Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS), Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS), full HD recording, 4K video recording, Night Sight, slo-mo video recording, Google Lens integration.
On the front, they house an 8MP sensor with F2.0 aperture, 1.12-micron pixel size, 84-degree FOV, full HD, HD video recording.
Pixel 3a features 5.8-inch screen with 3,000mAh battery and the 3a XL sports a 6.0-inch display with 3,700mAh cell.

Itel A46

China-based company Itel unveiled the A46, which is touted to be the most affordable phone with full view HD display and Artificial Intelligence (AI) camera. It costs Rs 4,999.

Itel A46 sports a 5.45-inch HD+ (1440x720p) IPS LCD display, 2GB RAM, 16GB storage, 8MP+VGA dual camera on the back with LED flash, smart recognition, text translation capability, a 5MP sensor with soft flash, multi-functional fingerprint sensor, face unlock, Android 9.0 Pie OS, 1.6GHz octa-core processor, and a 2,400mAh battery.
