Last Updated 28 November 2011, 17:02 IST

The 25-year old Chennai bowler took 22 wickets at 22.90 from three Tests to bag the man of the series award. He had also scored his maiden Test hundred in Mumbai that helped India salvage a tense draw. Ashwin scored 121 runs at 40.33 in the series.

The award, constituted by the Indian cricket board in 2007 for the outstanding performer in a bilateral series, will be given on December 10 at Chennai during the BCCI Awards Ceremony. The award consists of a trophy and a cheque for Rs 5 lakh.

Complementing Ashwin for getting the award in his first Test series itself, stand-in Indian skipper Virender Sehwag said, “It’s good to see a youngster coming in and doing well for the country in the first series itself. I am really happy for Ashwin, and he has been bowling well in all formats. The biggest award for a sportsperson is Arjuna award, and I am sure he will get that also soon. I am sure that he will get many more awards, and wickets for the country in the future.”
