Suresh, Lalita to headline Indian field

Three-time champion Suresh Kumar and Rio Olympian Lalita Babar will headline the Indian men's and women's elite fields at the TCS World 10K next Sunday.

Challenging Suresh, a silver medallist in the 5000 and 10000 metres races at the South Asian Games last year, will be Bugatha Srinu, who had a podium finish in the Mumbai Marathon earlier this year.

A B Belliappa will be the local hope while the field will also include Sachin Patil, Shankar Man Thappa, Karan Singh and Govind Singh.

Spotlight will be on Lalita, who finished 10th in the women's 3000M steeplechase at the Olympics in 2016. The national steeplechase record holder will have competition from Saigeetha Naik, who is the defending champion.

Also in the race is Monika Athare, who is coming into the event after clinching gold in the Guwahati Half Marathon on April 1, and the seasoned Swati Gadhave. Manju Yadav, Meenakshi Patil and Dimple Singh are the other notable names.

Meanwhile, the registrations for the Open 10K has seen an increase of 1495 runners from last time. Totally, 15,200 runners have registered for the event.
