Four Indian men progressed to the second round of $100,000 ATP Challenger of the Delhi Open at Delhi Lawn Tennis Association(DLTA) on Tuesday.
Yuki Bhambri knocked out second-seeded Alexander Kudryavtsev of Russia 7-5, 7-6 (2). Somdev Devvarman benefited from the injury to his Croatian opponent Antonio Veic, who pulled out retired hurt in the second set. Somdev had lost the opening set 4-6 but was leading 2-0 in the second when Veic decided to withdraw.
Ramkumar Ramanathan, ranked 272, fought back from a set down to beat Richard Becker of Germany 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6- 4 while Sanam Singh beat Frenchman Fabrice Martin 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
In the women’s section, Dhruthi Tatachar defeated Lehnert Katharina of Philippines 3-6, 7-6 (5), 6-0. Top ranked Indian Ankita Raina, seeded eighth, lost to Ukrainian Olga Savchuk 4-6, 4-6.
