BJP does not indulge in polarisation politics: Rajanth

Last Updated 09 March 2019, 18:11 IST

The opposition parties are forging a Mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) out of fear as they lack the confidence of taking on Narendra Modi-led BJP in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Speaking at a meeting of intellectuals here on Saturday, Rajnath said, “Mahaghatbandhan has not decided on Prime Minister candidate. The day Prime Minister candidate is announced, infighting within Mahagathbandhan will begin,” he mocked.

The country needs a strong and stable government, said Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh.

Speaking at the intellectual meet here on Saturday, he said “Mahagathbandhan has not decided on Prime Minister candidate. The day Prime Minister candidate is announced, infighting within Mahagathbandhan will begin,” he mocked.

He said, "After three decades a party won the 2014 general election with a clear majority. Now, India is marching ahead to become a superpower and world leader. The country needs a strong and stable government to sustain this."

The minister said “The BJP does not believe in polarisation politics. An attempt is being made to divide Hindus and Muslims in the country. We believe in humanity and social justice, and do not indulge in politics based on caste and religion.”

He said, “During the airstrike, India did not attack Pakistan civilians. We have only successfully targeted our mission.”

The minister also said that the BJP-led Union government had managed to curb the Naxal menace to a large extent. “Before the BJP came to power, the Maoists were present in 120 districts in the country. In the last five years, Maoist activities have been restricted to seven to eight districts. We have achieved 85% success in curtailing Naxal activities. The inflation is also under control in the country,” he added.

Stating that India had only two to three mobile manufacturing units in the past, Rajnath Singh said at present there are more than 120 units in the country and added that India is attracting investments.

Rajnath said, "A stable leadership helped the country achieve success on many fronts and that only a stable government would sustain the tempo of development in future."
