Cash for PhD: KUD to suspend prof

Syndicate council of Karnatak University here on Wednesday has taken a decision to suspend Prof Noorjahan Ganihar of Education department, who is accused of seeking bribe to award PhDs to two students.

In a meeting held on Wednesday, Syndicate members unanimously resolved to suspend the professor in question with immidieate effect.

Senior professor Noorjahan conduct has has brought disrepute to the university.

In-house inquiry
The Syndicate members urged the competent authority to initiate an in-house inquiry, headed by a retired high court judge or sitting district judge and assisted by an advocate from legal cell of the varsity, against the professor and take strict disciplinary action if found guilty of charges.

 A few members suggested that, in future, if there are any differences between the research students and the guides, the same should be brought to the notice of the registrar along with the evidence.

Meanwhile, the Lokayukta has registered a suo motu case against Prof Ganihar. Apart for this, the registrar has also lodged a criminal complaint against the professor in question with Lokayukta police. The Lokayukta police have summoned the professor for enquiry on June 5.
