Congress demands apology from Modi

Last Updated 21 September 2018, 11:47 IST

Former Union minister and Congress leader Anand Sharma on Wednesday refuted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s charge that AICC president Rahul Gandhi had disrespected former prime minister H D Deve Gowda.

At an election rally in Udupi on Tuesday, Modi had charged that Rahul disrespected Gowda and that it showed his culture.

“Rahul Gandhi did not mention Deve Gowda’s name even once during any of his recent election speeches,” Sharma told reporters.

“Gowda is a senior leader and former prime minister. The Congress always gives him respect. But Modi is making false statements to reap political gains. He should apologise to Rahul Gandhi,” said Sharma.

He quipped that Modi should run an ‘apology campaign’ instead of an election campaign. “The foundation of Modi’s government is lies, deceit, false claims and propaganda.”

Sharma also demanded that Modi speak up on how Union Minister Piyush Goyal and his wife continued to hold 99% stake in a company even after being sworn into office and how the turnover of BJP president Amit Shah’s son’s company increased from Rs 50,000 to Rs 80 crore and on the Nirav Modi bank loan fraud.
