The lack of a redressal mechanism to sort out problems regarding Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) of LPG subsidies was highlighted during the monthly meeting of Mysore Grahakara Parishat (MGP), held here, recently.

Consumers, who attended the meeting, opined that such a system was necessary, as many people in the city and the district were facing problems. The MGP had received around 30 written complaints from various LPG consumers in the city, which was discussed in the presence of K Rameshwarappa, Deputy Director, Food and Civil Supplies; V U Baby, Deputy Director, Indian Oil Corporation and C R Krishna, who represented the LPG distribution companies.

During the meeting, the officials said, only some problems could be attributed to the gas agencies or the banks. Other problems, faced by the consumers, were due to the mismatching of information given by consumers to banks and LPG dealers.

Subsidy transfer is done by the National Payment Corporation Limited (NPCL), which transfers money into the customers’ accounts, based on Aadhaar numbers, bank account numbers and LPG consumer numbers.

Incorrect or inadequate information with respect to the data provided by the consumers leads to non-transfer of subsidies or transfer of subsidies to the wrong bank accounts, the officials said.

Rameshwarappa agreed that a nodal agency to resolve consumer grievances with respect to Aadhaar transfers were necessary.
