Children have a day in 'Parliament'

It was a rare opprtunity for the schoolchildren to appraise the problems faced by them in schools and also seek an answer from elected representatives at taluk-level children’s parliament (Makkala Samsath) organised at ZP hall in Mangalore on Saturday. 

The students asked as to why politicians support communal activities. Why the police have failed in arresting Kalladka Prabhakar Bhat? We want to win prizes in the sports meet, unfortunately we do not have school ground... These were some of the questions raised by the kids to district-in-charge minister and MLAs. 

When Konaje Padavu School student Kiran said that there are only two teachers for 85 students, the Minister directed BEO to deploy teachers to the school. 

When a boy raised the question on communal activities, the Minister directed the students not to support any communal movement. MLA J R Lobo said that the anti-social elements do not work within the framework of law. 

When a student said that Mukka Urdu School does not have proper building, MLA Mohiuddin Bava said that he will look into the issue. 

Salma and Naushin of Katipalla School said that there are worms in the food supplied to children and lack of cleanliness in the school toilet. 

Water from toilets enter Kallapu Peace Public School, said Mufeed. 

Two students of Bertrand Russell High School alleged that school authorities have been harassing them because they have been attending dance classes outside the school. They said that the authorities are not allowing them to attend the classes and have threatened to issue TC.

In his reply, the Minister directed BEO Lokesh to visit the school on Monday.
