He had been remanded in judicial custody for three days. However, claiming health problems, the police officer got admitted to Jalappa Hospital. His bail plea was held on Nov 30 and orders were reserved for the next day. On Tuesday morning the police brought Puttaswamy to the court. The order denying bail was proclaimed in the evening.

“This is an incident of fence eating the crop and the officer cannot be granted bail. The evidence available at this juncture points fingers against the officer. Hence bail can’t be granted at this stage,” the court has said in its order, according to Special Public Prosecutor M G Chandrashekhar.

Special treatment

The police personnel who brought the SP to the Court seated him in the chamber of the First Additional District and Sessions Judge. The chamber was vacant following retirement of the the judge. The relatives of the SP even supplied coffee and biscuits. However, advocates raised objection with the Chief Administrative Officer against allowing an accused to sit in the chambers of the judge. The SP was later asked to come out. However, he went back to the room after a few minutes.
