Mysuru-based M P Ajith has been selected to participate in the World Amateur Chess Championship scheduled to be held at Greece in April 2016. He is the only player from the country, selected by All India Chess Federation (AICF) to represent the country.

Of 319 players from 23 States, who took part in the 4th National Amateur Chess Championship-2015, Ajith emerged winner by securing 10 points from 11 rounds.
Ajith, a resident of TK Layout in the city, has been practicing the game since childhood. “I am into chess for the past 20 years. Since two years I am making efforts to gain more expertise,” said 29-year-old Ajith.

Ajith had secured 13th place in the 3rd National Amateur Chess Championship held last year. Owing to financial constrains, he could not take the game seriously. But, now he is running a chess coaching centre to earn as well as to be a professional, he said. This time, the AICF is funding his participation in the world championship.

S N Jatin, also a resident of Mysuru, has secured six points from 11 rounds. He stands in the 102nd place in the tournament. Jatin is eligible to take part in the world championship on his own. Jatin is studying Class IX in the JSS Public School, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) campus.

Mysuru District Chess Association members have congratulated both Ajith and Jatin for their achievements.
