Former CM Siddaramaiah is drawing flak for his behaviour while interacting with Jamalar, a woman who was a former vice-president of T Narsipur Taluk Panchayat, during a public function at Gargeshwari village, under Varuna Assembly constituency, on Monday.

Siddaramaiah was in the village to attend a foundation laying ceremony for a power sub-station, organised by the KPTCL.

In a video, widely circulated on social media, Siddaramaiah gets restless as Jamalar accuses the officials of not responding to the people’s problems. When she says that Siddaramaiah has come to the village after a long time and that MLA Dr Yathindra is also not available to the common people, Siddaramaiah bursts out in anger and snatches the microphone from her hand and tells her to shut up and sit down.

BJP Mysuru District (Rural) President M Shivanna said that the incident is a shame for the political culture of the state. “It is unbecoming of a former chief minister to behave in such a manner. Leaders should listen patiently to the grievances of the people. Leaders are there to solve the problems of the people. If this is what the people get for voting for the leaders, why should the people vote?” he asked.

Siddaramaiah’s son Dr Yathindra represents the Varuna constituency, which Siddaramaiah himself represented from its formation in 2008 until the last polls in 2018.
