Five of a family killed in accident near Hiriyur

As many as five women of a family including three children were killed on the spot after the multiutility vehicle they were travelling crashed into a truck near Metikurke on National Highway-4 in Hiriyur taluk on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Tayamma (50), Latha (26), her daughter Varnika (6) (both wife and daughter of driver Prakash, respectively) Jahnavi (3) and Sushmita (13).

All were residents of Chitoor district in Andhra Pradesh.

Prakash, who sustained injuries in the accident, said that they had been to Bhadravathi for a festival and were returning to their native when the accident occurred.
