Govt hurting sentiments of devotees: Balekodi Mutt seer

Last Updated 02 August 2018, 09:24 IST

Balekodi Mutt seer Shashikanta Mani Swami has urged the state government not to restrict Sarpa samskara ritual inside the Samputa Narasimha Swami mutt.

The seer accused the state government's religious endowment department of hurting the sentiments of the devotees of Kukke Subrahmanya temple and Samputa Narasimha Swami mutt.

Stating that the administrative committee of the temple, monitored by the endowment department, has objected carrying out the ritual at the Samputa Narasimha Swami mutt, he urged the Deputy Commissioner to direct the administrative committee of the temple not to interfere much on the business of devotees.

He claimed that he is speaking on behalf of Dalits belonging to Malekudiya community who are revering presiding deity Kukke Subrahmanya.

The seer said that the department has been forcefully imposing unjustified instructions on the devotees, restricting the people from carrying out rituals in the Samputa Narasimhaswamy Mutt.

"These rituals are carried out in the mutt, apart from the temple from generations. There is no question of discrimination. It is the wish of the devotees to perform the Sarpa samskara ritual in the Narasimhaswami Mutt," he said.

"The department is causing embarrassment to Mutt," he said and added that to carry out Sarpa samskara ritual at Samputa Narasimha Swami mutt, is the prerogative of devotees and hence should be allowed as earlier.

"No confusions should be created by the department in this regard," he demanded.
