MLC Arun Shahpur has urged the Governor to intervene in the assault bid on Muddebihal MLA A S Patil Nadahalli in front of media persons.

Speaking to reporters, the BJP leader said, “This is a desperate measure by the ruling coalition. It is the Opposition’s right to criticise the policies and actions of the government. Instead of handling the criticism in a proper manner, they are resorting to physical ways to silence their critics. The assault bid on legislator was an attack on the Constitution and democratic values,” he charged.

“With elections round the corner, the ruling parties in the state are creating an atmosphere of fear. The Governor should obtain a detailed report on the assault bid on the BJP MLA and order the competent authority to take appropriate action against the culprits,” Shahpur urged.

The state government has failed to discharge its duties properly. The chief minister has made an irresponsible statement on the issue. The Governor should take serious note of the failure of law and order in the state, he said. Hundreds of activists of Rashtriya Basava Dal and supporters of Home Minister M B Patil tried to assault A S Patil Nadahalli during the press meet convened by the latter in Vijayapura on Saturday.
