Home minister seeks Nobel Prize for Siddaganga seer

Home Minister M B Patil on Wednesday said that Siddaganga Mutt seer Shivakumara Swami, who passed away on January 21, should be considered for Nobel Prize, in addition to the Bharat Ratna, the country’s highest civilian award.

Addressing mediamen in Bengaluru, Patil equated the seer’s contributions with that of social reformer Mother Teresa.

“The Swamiji, who lived up to 112 years, has served the country for 90 years, particularly lakhs of poor children by keeping them in the mutt, providing them food, shelter and a lot of love and compassion. Today, lakhs of people have been educated by the mutt. It’s still going on. Every year 10,000 students, irrespective caste and religion, are studying there. His service is no lesser than Nobel Prize winner Mother Teresa. We (Karnataka government) also urge that apart from Bharat Ratna, he should be considered for Nobel Prize for his services,” he
added.
