A 40-year-old farmer was killed after an elephant attacked him at Sakarasanahalli on Wednesday night. The deceased is Nagaraj.

The incident occurred when he was guarding the paddy field. Using its trunk, the elephant lifted him and threw him to the ground. Due to heavy bleeding and internal injuries, he died on the spot.

He spotted two elephants when he went to the field along with his relative Aadheesh. He attempted to chase them away, but the elephants retaliated.

While Aadheesh escaped, Nagaraj fell down in an attempt to run to safety and the elephant attacked him. Villagers demanded the forest department officials to pay compensation to the family of the victim when they arrived at the district hospital on Thursday.

They sought a job for Nagaraj’s wife and permanent solution to frequent elephant attacks. “We will give Rs 5 lakh compensation to Nagaraj’s family members. We will discuss with higher-ups to ensure a job to his wife. A proposal has been submitted to find a lasting solution to the problem of elephant attacks,” ACF Nagaraj said.
