Anti-plastic campaign launched

  In addition to remembering the Father of Nation and hoisting tricolour, the Ponnampete Gram Panchayat in association with organisations launched an anti-plastic campaign as part of the Independence Day celebrations.

Ponnampete Golden Jaycees, Swastha of Shuntikoppa and other organisations joined hands to make the town clean and plastic-free. An anti-plastic awareness procession was taken out from Ponnampete Junior College premises, wherein members of various organisations, students of schools and colleges took part.

Paper bags prepared by children of Swastha organisation were distributed to the  public during the procession. A fund to the tune of Rs 12,700 was raised during the procession for the welfare of inmate children of Swastha. Volunteers in the procession also requested the management of Ponnampete Ramakrishna Ashram to extend financial aid to Swastha.

Students of Government Higher Primary School, members of Basaveshwara Yuvaka Sangha, Mahathayi Purushara Sangha, Manjunatha Self Help Group, Basaveshwara Stree Shakti Group and other organisations also took part in the procession. GP President Kolera Daya Changappa and Vice President Ashis were present.
