Cricket: Swapnil spins first innings lead for Baroda

Baroda Cricket  Association to bowl out Andhra Cricket Association for 211 in 85 overs, gaining first innings lead of 46-runs. At the close of play, Baroda in their second innings were six for no loss in three overs, in their Group 'C' league tie on the second day of the Shafi Darashah All-India tourney tie played at the Gangothri Glades grounds here on Tuesday.

Resuming at their overnight score of 255 for eight in 96 overs, Baroda were bowled out for 257 in 97.5 overs. Shoeb Tai (22) and M Lukman (26) added 46-runs for the ninth wicket. Ajay Kumar (three for 53) and Sneha Kishore (three for 34) bowled well for Andhra.

In reply, Andhra started on a bad note losing their openers with just 15 runs on the board (15 for two), and at one stage they were 121 for seven. Left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh bowled a steady line to scalp six for 36 and was the pick of the Baroda bowlers.

At the close of the play, Baroda ahead by 46-runs in their first innings had scored six for no loss in three overs. The match was called off at 5.20 pm owing to bad light. Skipper Aditya Wagmode (6 n.o.) and Saurav Wagankar ( n.o) were at the crease.

Secretary’s XI

In the other Group 'C' tie at JSS-SJCE grounds, Karnataka Secretary's XI in reply to Assam Cricket Association’s first innings score of 314 in 103.4 overs, had scored 267 losing six wickets in 88.1 overs at the close of play on the second day. Anirudh Joshi (16 n.o) and J Suchith ( 0 n.o) were at the crease when bad light halted the day's match.

KSCA Secretary's XI needs another 48-runs to get, with four-wickets in hand for the first innings lead. Earlier skipper Karun Nair continued his good form with the willow by scoring a well compiled 101 (133b, 11x4s, 3x6s). Karun Nair and Kunaian Abbas (25) added 65-runs for the second wicket and later Karun Nayar and left-hander Arjun Hoysala (30, 4x4s) added 70-runs for the third wicket. Gaurav Goel (31,3x4s, 1x6s) and Sadiq Kirmani (43, 6x4s, 1x6s) made for a fifth wicket partnership of 72-runs. Medium-pacer of Assam Krishna Das impressed taking two for 50.
