Government schoolchildren to get a dose of music

 In an effort to make learning fun and interesting and to create interest about music among the schoolchildren, the Department of Kannada and Culture, in association with the district administration, Zilla Panchayat and Department of Public Instruction, has launched a unique programme ‘Music in Schools’, at the Government Primary and High School in Rajendra Nagar here on Monday.

Under the programme, makeshift stage have been designed in two vehicles - Kapila Yana and Cauvery Yana. The ‘Music in Schools’ vehicles will visit various government schools across the district till February 14.

The authorities aim to reach out to 30,000 schoolchildren in 48 schools. The programme will be organised at six identified schools in each taluk, and the authorities also provided an opportunity for one private school in a taluk to utilise the opportunity.

While Kapila Yana will tour Mysuru Rural, T Narasipur, Nanjangud and HD Kote taluks, Cauvery Yana will reach out to schools in KR Nagar, Hunsur, Periyapatna and Mysuru city.

The authorities have roped in a total number of 25 singers, who will travel with the vehicles to stage programmes at the schools.

On Monday, after the launch of the programme by Additional Deputy Commissioner T Venkatesh, artistes rendered songs composed by poets such as Kuvempu, G S Shivarudrappa, M Govinda Pai, B R Lakshman Rao, Da Ra Bendre, K S Narasimha Swamy, Dinakara Desai and others. Besides poems, vachanas and compositions of Purandara Dasa will be sung. Zilla Panchayat president Nayeema Sultana flagged off the music vehicles.
