Addressing a news conference on Wednesday, he said that Kaveri Sene along with farmers and residents of Virajpet taluk have been opposing the project for the last 3 years but now Power Grid Corporation has called a meeting under presidency of Deputy Commissioner on August 22, without discussing it with anybody. This is indeed condemnable.

“Kaveri Sene has informed former deputy commissioners K R Niranjan and M K Baladevakrishna about its stand on this project. Since Ashwathanarayana Gowda had taken over as DC only recently, he does not know the background properly. Organisation will fight against the project at any cost,” Chengappa said.

He said that the project will have adverse affect on the health of the people in general and expectant mothers in particular apart from devastating the ecological balance of Kodagu as over 25,000 to 30,000 trees will have to be cut down to make way for the project.
He warned the officials of Corporation of dire consequences if they come to kodagu to conduct survey for the project.

He informed that Corporation has bought equipment worth Rs 6 crore and has stocked it up at Budiyal in Piriyapatna.

Kaveri Sene Office bearers Sathish Rai and Chandru were present at the news conference.
