Holidays for schools in Kodagu district today

26,400 cusecs water was released into river from Harangi reservoir

With the rainfall lashing across Kodagu district, the district administration has declared holidays for schools, colleges and anganwadi centres on Monday.

Madikeri, Napoklu, Sampaje, Bhagamandala, Virajpet, Hudikeri, Srimangala, Ponnampet, Ammathi, Balale, Somwarpet, Shanivarasanthe, Shanthalli,Kodlipete, Kushalnagar and Suntikoppa have recorded good rainfall. However, the intensity of rainfall has declined compared to last few days.

Vehicle users were struggling to navigate the pothole filled College road. The house belonging to Dhanu at Mallikarjuna Nagara was damaged in Madikeri. A well caved in near Bhagavathi temple. The retaining wall belonging to Roshan collapsed on Moornadu road.
The district has received an average of 66.94 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. It was 14.45 mm during the corresponding period last year. The district has received an average of 1844.10 mm rainfall since January. Rainfall recorded in hoblis are as follows: Madikeri kasaba—101.4 mm, Napoklu—72.8 mm, Sampaje—84.8 mm, Bhagamandala—91 mm, Virajpet—64.6 mm, Hudikeri—53.3 mm, Somwarpet—76.4 mm, Shanivarasanthe—56.4 mm and Shanthalli—151.60 mm.

With the catchment area of Harangi reservoir receiving copious rainfall, about 26,400 cusecs water was released into the river on Sunday. The maximum storage capacity of the reservoir was 2859 feet. The inflow of water into the reservoir was 11,360 cusecs.

Chikmagalur

Heavy rainfall that lashed Tarikeri for the last few days threw normal life out of gear. Following continuos rainfall, transplated maize seedlings have been damaged. “We need a break from rainfall to apply fertilisers and insecticides on the crops,” said farmer Nagappa.
A house belonging to D R Trinesh was damaged at Hiluvalli village in Narasimharajapura.
