'Impu' sways over music lovers

Event makes for a perfect Sunday treat for connoisseurs of music

Art cognoscentis in the city were treated with a musical extravaganza for 16 hours at ‘Impu’ on Sunday.

Concerts of veterans and fledglings, under one roof at Navajyothi Auditorium, JSS Women’s College, Saraswathi-puram, drew both the young and elderly in hordes, making for a perfect outing for the day. The programme was organised by renowned Sarod exponent Pandit Rajiv Taranath under the banner of Pandit Taranath Foundation, with the intention of kindling people’s interest in music and also promotion of young talents.

Stalwarts like Pandit Rajiv Taranath, vocalist Indudhar Nirodi, clarinet exponent Narasimhalu Vadavati to name a few were the showstoppers. Close to lunch break, Nirodi rendered a composition of his guru, taking the audience into a journey of melody.
The hall reverberated when the raga reached a high.

The day began with mellifluous vocal concert by Sanjana Koushik, followed by flutist Sameer Rao, vocal by Poornima Bhat Kulkarni and S Hiranmayi, Sarangi by Sarfaraz Khan, another flutist Ravishankar Mishra, tabla by Ustad Fayaz Khan, flute by Pandit Prabir Bhattacharya, vocal by Pandit Parameshwar Hegde.

Though there was no dearth of audience in the morning and post lunch session, evening saw music lovers in huge numbers, with people jostling for space.

Earlier in the morning, during the opening of the concerts, Pandit Rajiv Taranath reminisced the words of his father Pandit Taranath. Said Rajiv Taranath: “My father was saying music has power to shape a man and one should make best use of the same”.
