Kodagu to get Rs 5 lakh for literary meet

Addressing a press meet, District Kannada Sahithya Parishat President T P Ramesh said of Rs 5 lakh, one lakh will be used for bringing out four books during the sammelan. Rs 30,000 will be given to flood relief in North Karnataka. The remaining Rs 3.70 lakh will be released within two days.

A reference book including collection of poems, stories, lalitha prabandha, Kodagu history will be brought out during the sammelan. Kodagu’s development pre-indenpednet and post independence will also be documented in the form of book.
He said about Rs 9 lakh will be spent for the sahithya sammelan. We have made arrangement for the meals to 5000 persons.

The four main roads in Shanivarasanthe will be named after Bidaroor Madayya, B K Shanthaveerappa, Kittur Mallappa, G K Chandrashekar, N K Moorthy. The entrance arch will be named after Field Marshal K M Kariappa. Kannada and Culture department Director Manu Baligar will inaugurate the sammelan. Litterateur Subbaraya Chokkadi will release eight books. A souvenir ‘Sahithya sapthami’ will also be released on the occasion. Children’s poet meet for the students of eighth to tenth standard will also be held.

Retired principal Dr M G Nagarj will preside over the seventh district Kannada Sahithya Sammelan. ‘Kodagu jilleya suggi kattegalu’ ‘Kembatti Jananga’ ‘Kodagra Beerangal,’ ‘Devadakad,’ ‘Kodagina arasaru,’ ‘Kodagina kaimadagalu,’ are some of works of Dr Nagaraj.
