MIC to host awareness on climate change

Manipal Institute of Communication (MIC) will be organising a 3-day programme to create awareness on climate change through art on January 17 to 19 at MIC premises.

Speaking to media persons here on Sunday, MIC Director Prof Varadesh Hiregange informed that the three-day cartoon expo “Cartoons for climate” will be held on the occasion at MIC Auditorium and is open to all. There are as many as 75 cartoons in the display from across the globe and are chosen at the competitions held at UK and India. The inauguration of three-day programme will be done by Manipal University Pro Vice Chancellor Dr Vinodh Bhat.

MIC Honorary Director Dr M V Kamath and British Council (Chennai) Project Manager Solomon A J will be guests of honor. Association of British Scholar Mangalore chapter President Dr K C Shet will preside, he said.

Inaugural ceremony will be followed by the screening of “Blocks of Green,” by renowned film maker Bishnu Dev Halder. Parallel sessions on lectures on climate change and its impact on coastal fisheries and the environment will be held on the occasion. St Aloysius College (Mangalore) Dept. of Biotechnology Professor and HoD Dr Smitha Hegde, Mangalore University Dept. of Marine Geology Professor Dr Jayappa, NITK Surathkal Professor Dr Lakshman will deliver lectures on the occasion, he added.

Short films on climate change will be screened. Film making workshop by Bishnu Dev Halder will also be held on the occasion.

Film editing workshop by Ambit Computers Mangalore faculty Jagdeesh will be part of the three days programme on January 18.

Cartoon drawing competition will be held for MIC students on the same day. Quiz competition will be organised on climate change on January 19 under the supervision of Yenepoya School (Mangalore) Principal, Quiz master Dr C K Manjunath.
