Ensuring that our culture and superior ideals are passed to the future generations is our responsibility, reminded legislator N H Shivashankar Reddy.

He was speaking at the Gadinada Samskritika Utsava organised in Chintalapalli on Sunday by the Department of Kannada and Culture and the Chintalapalli Parampara Trust.

He also inaugurated the Gadinada Samskritika Bhavan, which was built at an expenditure of Rs eight lakh.

“The Chintalapalli Parampara Trust has requested the establishment of a Karnataka Music Open University in Chintalapalli. The matter would be brought to the notice of the State government,” Reddy promised.

Deputy Commissioner Dr N Manjula, who spoke on the occasion, said, “The youth needs to be attracted towards art and culture. They need to make a deep study of the diverse culture of the country.”

Zilla Panchayat president Chinnappaiah said, organising cultural fests in the border areas helps mobilise cultural activities. “It is also a stage for the artistes to present their skills as well as to discuss serious issues related to art and culture,” he added.

Chintalapalli Parampara Trust secretary Shrikanth Nagendra Shastri, Zilla Panchayat vice-president B Savithramma, Taluk Panchayat president Shrinivas, vice-president Chethana, tahsildar B Sudha, Town Municipal Council president Geetha Jayandhar, vice-president Ramesh, Zilla Panchayat member Keshava Reddy, leaders B G Venugopala Reddy and others participated in the programme.

Gale wrecks havoc

Heavy rain and wind towards the end of the Gadinada Utsava in Chintalapalli brought down the pillars installed to put up the pandals. Fifteen people were injured as a result of the accident.

The cultural programme was about the end when a gale started blowing, throwing the pandal apart. The pillars collapsed, injuring the people in the audience.

Taluk Department of Agriculture assistant director Anuroopa too was injured in the head. The guests on the dais, however, remained unharmed by the incident.
