Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai said that no garland made of sandals was thrown at Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee President D K Shivakumar.

He said that someone must have thrown it at the vehicle which was behind Shivakumar's vehicle. Police Commissioner of Belagavi has been directed to initiate action if anyone takes the law into their own hands, he added.

The minister was speaking to a section of media persons at Mangalore International Airport during his private visit to Mangaluru on Sunday. "The Police Commissioner has been directed to ensure that no untoward incidents take place in Belagavi. Security should be given to those who visit Belagavi."

The SIT is investigating the issue of a CD involving former minister Ramesh Jarkiholi. "It is not important what Congress leaders are saying on it. We are investigating it legally. The Congress government in the past hushed up the sex scandal allegedly involving former minister H Y Meti. No case was booked. Hence, we will not give importance to the statements of Congress leaders," said Bommai.

"The SIT has honest officers. They will not heed any pressure. Several CDs and audio clips have been released so far. The probe will be carried out scientifically. I do not wish to speak on the issue as the case is under investigation," added Bommai.
