The controversy on the proposed cricket stadium at Palemadu, to be constructed by Karnataka State Cricket Academy, has reached the Green Tribunal.

Addressing reporters here on Monday, senior advocate A K Subbaiah said the stadium is planned in the crematorium land in Palemadu village. If the stadium is built, the environment will be affected. An application will be filed against this in the Green Tribunal, he said.

The police personnel who resorted to lathi charge on the residents of Palemadu residents should be suspended and a high-level enquiry should be initiated into the case, Subbaiah said.

No notice was served before clearing the banners and flexes on Ambedkar and Tipu Sultan. The police have done the work with the backing of communal forces. The video captured by some youth during lathi charge was forcefully deleted by the police. Action should be initiated against the erring police personnel.

The police have also assaulted the protesters recently in front of the deputy commissioner’s office in Mangaluru. Similar incidents are taking place across the state, where the poor people who demand their rights, are beaten up.

Subbaiah further said that Kodagu District In-charge Minister M R Seetharam has been delivering vague statements. After he has become the district in-charge minister, the law and order situation has turned worse.

Bahujan Samaj Party leader Premkumar said that various communities are dwelling in Palemadu and not only the Dalits. Attempts are being made to stir peace with the backing of RSS leaders in the region.
Leaders Monnappa, Hoddur gram panchayat vice president Kusumavati and Radha were present.
