DC initiates action for lake development in Virajpet

Deputy Commissioner Charulata Somal has directed the officials of Virajpet Town Panchayat to take up appropriate measures for the development of lakes in the town limits.

Deccan Herald and Prajavani had published articles on the apathy of authorities towards the four lakes in the Town Panchayat limits. A reader had posted the article on Twitter, to draw the attention of the government.

The deputy commissioner has directed the Town Panchayat officials to prepare a detailed project report on the development of lakes.

Virajpet Town Panchayat chief officer A M Shridhar said that measures will be taken to develop Shivakeri lake. A plan has already been drawn for the development of Pump kere lake.

Also, during a meeting on Monday, Urban Development Minister Byrathi Basavaraj sought information on the current status of the development of Chatra kere and Gowri kere.

The minister has also assured of providing necessary support from the department.
