‘Modi should fulfil promises made to people’

District In-charge Minister U T Khader said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was re-elected with a thumping majority, should fulfil the promises he made in the previous election in the next five years.

He told reporters on Saturday that promises – including getting back the black money stashed in foreign banks, depositing Rs 15 lakh in every citizen’s account, reducing the price of fuel and generating employment – had remained unfulfilled in the last term.

“At least now, the prime minister should fulfil the demands,” he insisted.

RBI funds

Khader urged the Centre to initiate measures to make the Indian Rupee stronger against the US Dollar. “The reserve funds of the RBI should remain intact. The rise in prices of essential commodities should be checked by the Central government,” he added.

“As Modi has come to power with the country’s security being a main issue on their political plank, the Centre should ensure that incidents like at Pulwama do not repeat in the country. A flight should be provided for the movement of the Indian soldiers. Measures should be taken to ensure that explosives are not smuggled into the country from across the border,” the minister urged.

Khader said that the BJP, during the election campaigning, had promised to implement a uniform civil code and withdraw Article 370 from Kashmir. The Centre should ensure that its decisions are not harmful to the unity and integrity of the country.

‘Will work harder’

“All Congress leaders had worked hard for the victory of the Congress – JD(S) coalition candidate Mithun M Rai. The result was unexpected, but defeat is not permanent. The party will not be put off by this defeat. Instead, the Congress will continue its work to protect the Constitution and uphold the principles of secularism. We will help the party grow stronger,” he declared.

Speaking further, he said that none can be held accountable for the results. All had worked in unison. The District Congress Committee will review and introspect the reasons that led to the political debacle in the district, he responded to a query.

Safe and strong

The JD(S) – Congress coalition government is strong and safe in Karnataka.

“The BJP had been trying to topple the government since a year. H D Kumaraswamy will continue as chief minister for the next four years,” Khader stated.
