The 10th state convention of the United Plantation Workers’ Union will be held in Manasa Hall in Somwarpet, at 10 am on February 28, said AITUC district president H M Somappa.

Addressing reporters, he said that AITUC state secretary A D Vijayabhaskar will inaugurate the programme.

CPI secretary H M Renukaradhya, Kodagu district committee secretary Sunil, labour union leaders N Mani and others will attend. Representatives from Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu will take part, he said.

Somappa alleged that the Central and the state governments have been implementing unscientific laws deliberately, to snatch the benefits of labourers.

He also warned of conducting severe protests if the BPL cards of two-wheeler owners are scrapped.

He further said, “The economy of the country is pathetic, owing to bad administration by the BJP-led Central government. The common man is burdened with high fuel prices.”

AITUC office-bearers P T Sundara and Kumar were present.
