Urban Development U T Khader on Wednesday downplayed the fight between two Muslim leaders in the Congress- Tanveer Sait and B Z Zameer Ahmed Khan.

Former minister Sait, who is disgruntled over not being picked to become a minister, publicly chided Khan and questioned his acceptance in the Muslim community. Khan, who is Food, Civil Supplies and Minorities Welfare minister, retorted that he was a bigger Muslim leader than Sait.

“There’s no competition among the Muslim leaders in the party. We are together,” Khader told reporters here. “We should be people’s leaders and not just of a community,” he added.

Khader visited the state Congress headquarters here to interact with party workers, a routine he said he wants to follow once every month. Khader, who is also minister for Housing, allayed fears that the sector would suffer fund cuts in the new budget that Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy will start to prepare.
