JOIN USMysureans appreciate civic workers’ cleanliness efforts
The citizens of the ‘Clean City’ appreciated the efforts of civic workers as well as the officials of the Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) in maintaining cleanliness during the 10-day Dasara celebration.
During the festival, the MCC successfully maintained the beauty of the city by taking up cleanliness works every now and then. The MCC had deployed additional pourakarmikas, along with the regular workers.
As many as 2,000 workers took up the works across the city in shifts, on all the 10 days. The citizens feel that the officials successfully performed the task, even though there were no people’s representatives to monitor the works. The officials, particularly MCC Environmental Engineers, Health Officials and the Commissioner, played a major role in maintaining the beauty of the city.
Chandrakala, a resident of Saraswathipuram, said, she visited several Dasara programme venues, but, hardly noticed waste littered anywhere. “Of course, a few places were littered, but, the garbage was being cleared . It was not that easy to manage cleanliness across the city, where lakhs of people thronged everyday. Still, the officials and the civic workers succeeded in maintaining the beauty and dignity of the city,” she said.
Suvarna of Vijayanagar claimed that the city was neat and the civic workers were all active in maintaining hygiene this time. “The venue of food festival is a good example for the efforts of the civic workers. The food festival venue was the one which produced a large quantity of dry as well as wet waste. But, the workers successfully managed cleanliness in both the venues — Scouts and Guides Grounds and the ground near Lalitha Mahal Palace,” she said.
Plastic usage less
The citizens also appreciated the MCC and the district administraion for bringing down the usage of banned plastic. The usage of banned plastic was less compared to previous years.
The MCC authorities kept a close watch on the usage of banned plastic items. Prior to Dasara, the officials raided several shops for selling banned plastic materials.
It may be mentioned that the citizens were scared that cleanliness could get compromised during Dasara as the civic workers had launched an indefinite protest, demanding the state government to fulfill their long-pending demands. The city was filled with garbage as the workers boycotted work for seven days. However, the pourakarmikas resumed work just a day before the commencement of ‘Naada Habba’ on October 10.
