Mysuru may be soon declared as the first district in the nation to have achieved 100 per cent success in seeding of bank accounts for direct benefits transfer for LPG (DBTL), under the rechristened Pahal scheme.

Dhiraj Sahu, Sales Manager, BPCL, said that 97 per cent of the LPG consumers in the district, out of the total of 5.5 lakh consumers, have already linked their bank accounts. Two per cent of the consumers are government institutions and the process is on to link them, while the distributors are tracing the remaining one per cent consumers who have not seeded their bank accounts, he added.

He was speaking at a meeting on the DBTL, convened by the Food and Civil Supplies Department at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, here, on Thursday. He said, the scheme for opting out of LPG subsidy was also gaining momentum and 31 individuals had opted out in the district under BP dealerships.

Kerosene-free villages

Senior Deputy Director for Food and Civil Supplies K Rameshwarappa said, one village each in all the taluks of the district will be selected to be made kerosene-free with the help of petroleum companies.

He said, the companies were extending free LPG connections (no deposit for cylinder and regulator is collected) to eligible Below Poverty Line (BPL) ration card holders under their Corporate Social Responsibility funds and this can be used to bring all members of the selected villages under the LPG net. He directed the taluk-level officials to identify a village and start the process to enrol the beneficiaries.
