'Naxals' try to slur judge, lawyers boycott court

Last Updated 19 June 2018, 09:39 IST

The Advocates' Association of Raichur, boycotted court proceedings on Tuesday protesting the smear campaign against a sessions judge by people who identified themselves as naxals.

A group of people who identified themselves as 'naxals' entered the court premises, threw around handbills alleging that the First District and Sessions Judge Mahadevaiah was 'corrupt'. The handbills instigated people to fight against injustice. The group of miscreants then fled the scene according to the police.

Protesting against such unbecoming conduct, the District Advocates' Association boycotted proceedings on Tuesday.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police D Kishore Babu said, that he was aware of the incident and the police would take action once a complaint is filed.

It is learnt that the handbills were strewn in the court premises on Friday; but as Saturday and Sunday were court holidays, the incident went unnoticed. In the Advocates Association meeting on Monday, the protest was planned and observed on Tuesday.
