Last Updated 22 April 2018, 12:54 IST

Politicians are always on the lookout for new ways to woo voters in a novel way. But this one will take the cake.

Muniratna, who is seeking re-election from Rajarajeswarinagar constituency in Bengaluru city on a Congress ticket, is mixing effectively politics with films.

Muniratna, who is also a well-known film producer, has been distributing 184-page glossy booklet to voters in his constituency. Besides highlighting his achievements with over 100 photographs, the booklet also has a poster of his upcoming magnum opus Kurukshetra in the reverse jacket.

Interestingly, the jacket, with an impressive picture of king’s court scene, says it is “Muniratna Kurukshetra”, referring to the May 12 Assembly elections with a picture of the politician on the top with his film production house name.

However, the big budget multi-starrer movie is titled “Kurukshetra” and features Darshan, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of JD(S) chief ministerial candidate H D Kumaraswamy, and Ambareesh, Arjun Sarja, Sneha and Haripriya.

The booklet has several photos of Muniratna with leading film personalities cutting across party lines and politicians. As he details out his achievements and implementation of various development works in nine wards in his constituency, Muniratna takes a potshot at Laggere corporator Manjula Narayanaswamy of the JD(S) and J P Park corporator Mamata Vasudev of the BJP as they locked horns with him on various issues.

Muniratna has been preparing for elections for the last six months and had conducted a survey to capture the profile of the voters in the constituency, including caste and educational background, and his team members have been calling voters to gather impression about his works in the constituency.

The book, which describes Muniratna as popular leader and harbinger of development, says only 2,000 copies have been printed. However, thousands of copies are being distributed to the voters. Also, as his supporters hand over the book to voters, they seek opinion of the landlord/landlady and record the same on the mobile!
