Rs 1 cr unaccounted for cash seized

Mangaluru North Police have arrested a man and seized unaccounted for cash worth Rs one crore from him in Car Street area in the wee hours of Friday.

According to Mangaluru Commissioner of Police Sandeep Patil, the cash was seized from one Manjunath (56), who was found loitering suspiciously in Car Street area, during morning rounds in North Police Station jurisdiction.

The money in his possession was found to have been securely sealed. During the investigation, Manjunath from Malleswaram in Bengaluru had reportedly told the police that he was not aware of cash in the parcel he was carrying. The Police Commissioner said, “The cash seizure was a result of intensified morning beats carried out by the police in the past three days following an information on movement of such cash to the district in huge quantity.

The police said some rowdy elements were also planning robbery and extortion on such transporters. One such case was registered in Urwa, a year ago.

Patil said Manjunath did not provide information on the source of the money and whom it was being sent to.

He told police that a man from Bengaluru had asked him to hand over the suitcase and collect a package in return from a man in Car Street, Patil said.

Mangaluru North police have registered a case.
