The judicial custody of four accused in the Sulvadi Maramma temple prasada poisoning case – Immadi Mahadevaswamy, Ambika, Madesha and Doddaiah – comes to an end on Thursday.

Speaking to DH, SP Dharmendra Kumar Meena said the accused, who are in the Central Prisons in Mysuru, would be produced before the Additional District Sessions Court in Kollegal at 11 am. More than a hundred devotees took ill, while 17 people lost their lives after consuming the prasada at the temple in Sulvadi village, Hanur taluk on December 14.

The police conducted spot mahazar and inquiry and produced them before the judge on December 21. The judge had remanded them in judicial custody till January 3. Though the advocates of Chamarajanagar and Mysuru districts have decided not to defend the accused, it is said that secret attempts are being made to bail out the accused.

Mysuru-based lawyer Mahadevaswamy had come forward to appear for the accused. He even visited the court on December 27. Later, he informed the media that he is not defending them. It is being rumoured that lawyers from Bengaluru will appear for them.
