Thousands of IIM aspirants set to crack CAT today

Two-and -half hour online test at ten centres in Bangalore
Last Updated 26 October 2010, 18:04 IST

The two-and-a-half hour-long online test will be held at 10 centres in the City during a 20-day testing window from October 27 to November 24. The exam consists of questions on quantitative, verbal, logical and data interpretation skills. There will be three sections in it and the total number of questions will be 60.

Here’s a checklist:

Reach the test centre well in advance. Those who’ll take the test in the morning slot beginning at 10 am should reach the test centre by 8 am. Bear in mind, no student will be allowed after 8:30 am. With most test centres located in remote areas, it’s prudent to be extremely cautious of Bangalore’s notorious morning traffic. So, start the daily very early, arrange for suitable transport and defeat the traffic jinx. Similarly, candidates taking the test in the afternoon slot (3:30-6 pm) should reach the exam centre by 2 pm.

Go to bell the CAT with a clean frame of mind. Take bath and avoid going to write the test on an empty stomach. Have breakfast, you cannot afford to remain hungry for more than five hours.

Don’t opt out of the optional 15-minute tutorial. You may have grasped all nuances of the entrance exam, but it’s still better you go for the tutorial to familiarise yourself completely with the online format. The tutorial has been introduced in order to prevent large-scale technical glitches that marred last year’s CAT.

Each student will be given a computer terminal. If you need any assistance, raise your hand and ask for a TCA (Technology Cooperation and Assistance).

Don’t carry anything (yes, anything except for a few documents) inside the test centre. A sheet of paper, a pencil and an eraser will be given to you for making rough calculations.
During the exam, keep looking at the time slot that appears on the right side of the computer screen. It tells you the time you are left with to complete the test.
