Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa on Friday urged the pro-Kannada groups not to go ahead with Saturday bandh, calling it "unnecessary".

Pro-Kannada groups have called for a bandh on Saturday against the government's decision to establish the Maratha Development Corporation.

"I'm trying to take all sections of society together," Yediyurappa told reporters. "Whatever importance is needed for Kannada, we're doing that. I'm ready to do anything else that the Kannada leaders want," he said. "I kindly request them to cooperate by not going ahead with the bandh. There's no permission for it."

Yediyurappa said he had made repeated pleas to the Kannada groups to drop the bandh plan. "Vatal Nagaraj and others, they shouldn't trouble people with the bandh. It's not necessary," he said.
